MPA Client Testimonials
I started my journey with Paul Connor around the beginning of May 2018. I considered myself fairly fit, having rowed competitively for about 10 years and before that run marathons, half marathons and completed a couple of sprint triathlons, however, I wasn’t happy ☹. I have never been a confident person, but I can put on a convincing act! I am very critical of myself, I already know what you are thinking about me before you do.
I didn’t need to weigh myself because I was just FAT. I couldn’t look at myself in the mirror and clothes shopping was just a case of pick the biggest size, it will cover all the lumps and bumps! I had joined gyms in the past but given up and had toyed with the idea of getting a PT. About March I started checking out the local gyms and at the end of April I took the plunge and got in touch with Paul at MPA. It was one of the best decisions of my life.
That first meeting with Paul, I was terrified. Terrified of what he was going to think and say and then holy moly! he wanted to weigh me??!!! I needn’t have got so worked up. Paul quickly put me at ease and as embarrassed as I was at having my weight revealed, he didn’t make a big deal out of it, just told me that this was our starting point and that it was just a number.
The first couple of sessions were tough physically, but also facing the fact that I wasn’t very strong at all, I struggled with the lightest of weights. I’m sure if Paul had any hair he would have been pulling it out! He never lost his patience with me, if I was struggling with an exercise, he would think of another way for me to try. Some weeks it didn’t seem to me as though any progress was being made but Paul was so enthusiastic and knowledgeable, he kept me up beat and I wanted to do well and work hard for him, as well as me.
When I look back over the last 6 months there have been significant changes in my life, both physically and mentally. My fitness and strength are improving, and I feel more confident and not so ashamed of my body, I have even felt able to reduce my medication dosage. Paul has become someone who I class as a good friend and has become the little voice on my shoulder. I only have one regret and that is that I didn’t do this sooner 😊
I have had the good fortune of being a client and friend of Paul Connor for the past 12 years. By the age of 45, my busy professional and personal life had included very little exercise. There was just no room, no time for the gym or myself.
Now at the tender age of 57, I have never felt so fit, healthy and just alive as I do now. Granted, I still carry more weight than I would like, but Paul and I have an understanding whereby he understands my lifestyle and he knows just the right amount of pressure to put upon me in order to make me extend my physical capabilities to their utmost.
Through a personalised and ever changing range of exercises and routines, I feel that I could apply myself to things that I would never have dreamed possible. Paul has given me the confidence to enter a rowing competition, enter Race for Life events and generally develop my knowledge and understanding about diet, health and fitness.
Our twice a week sessions (which include a carefully selected blend of aerobics, strength exercises, flexibility training – all challenging and yet enjoyable) are now an essential part of my life after which I feel energised, healthy and ready to take on the world.
I would highly recommend Paul for any type of physical training. He is professional, committed, funny and inspiring. His enthusiasm is infectious. He could make a difference to your life too.
I started going to MPA just over a year ago. Being fairly new to the area, I struggled to meet new people. So I decided to kill two birds with one stone and meet new people and improve my fitness.
My first step was to get in touch with Kevin Whitehead, which is the best thing I ever did. He keeps me motivated, gives me advice to achieve my goals, and keeps me going back for more, even when I’m tired after work. He understands my awkward shift pattern, and makes it easier for me with effective workouts, where I’m seeing results and still having energy to last the day.
Over the past year, I feel fitter, stronger and healthier. I feel Ive progressed and become more competitive since I started at MPA. Taking on Kevs cardio class, doing a 5k run with the 2 Pauls (hopefully more to come) and joining a football team as well as meeting amazing people.
The atmosphere and unique location of the gym keeps me determined to go back for more every day, knowing that I can talk to anyone if I need any advice. The MPA team as a whole is always so welcoming. Having Kev and the team by my side, has allowed me to see that having fun and being social, is part and parcel of exercising and getting results at MPA.
“A big super massive thanks to Paul Connor for rebuilding me and making me better than I was before, better, stronger, faster. After training at the MPA gym for only six weeks I have lost weight, toned up and already look and feel different and have loads more energy.
I was a bit startled by the layout of the gym at first as there aren’t loads of machines, which I have always been used to, but every session I do is different, and if I dig really really deep into my soul, I might be able to admit, that even though I am really stroppy and appear to be thoroughly miserable and on the verge of giving up throughout my sessions, all the activities that I have done so far have been unusual, varied, enjoyable and challenging.
I still have a very long way to go, but I feel that the support and advice that I get from Paul and MPA, combined with the interesting and varied activities that they offer, means that I may have finally found a way to achieve and sustain the health and fitness levels that I desire.
This wonderful welcoming gym is a fantastic life-changing find, after years of trying just about everything!”
